The Problem with Paid Directories and High Pagerank
I thought I would write this little article warning people about some of the paid directories and how they can and are exploiting people with misleading quotes such as high pagerank, charging phenomenal fees for nothing like high pagerank backinks in return like promised or suggested.
There seems to be a pandemic of sites charging in order for a small placement link in a category which relates to the niche website in question. You in effect place your site link in the relevant category and pay a fee which can range from 5 dollars up to and including 150.00 plus, some are free like this one.
However what they don’t tell you is that each page has a pagerank, an independent internal pagerank for every page . So for instance, if you had a website with say 100 pages within the site you have 100 separate pagerank pages which can range from a scale of 1-10 depending on various factors.
Failing to check the internal pagerank of where you link is likely to be placed before may save you quite a bit of money for pretty much nothing in return.
Say for instance the web directory in question has a homepage with a pagerank of 7 which may look quite tempting at first thought, however if you cannot place your link on that actual homepage the pagerank 7 counts for nothing.
The best method to check this would be to use free software on the web and locate where in that site your link is likely to be placed and check the internal pagerank of that given page, you may find some of them have a pagerank of 0 or low pagerank.
Granted no doubt these pagerank pages may rise or not over the coming months however it doesn’t take away the fact that some directories are claiming high pagerank to sell links, its misleading and should be stamped out.
I don’t know about you but I would find it infuriated paying for a link in a high pagerank directory not that I would to later find out that the internal page it is place on has a pagerank of 0 or quite low. In fact it is quite likely to be low for the simple reason that most directories have a lot of categories meaning less traffic to each page which in effect lower each page and each pagerank in the directory.
You also have to take in account the sheer number of directories, this will also decrease traffic volume as more and more directories are built lowering pagerank of each page as traffic drops as more competition emerges. Either these directory owners do not understand pagerank or they are misleading people to make money.
I would also suggest that perhaps there is evidence for refunds in certain cases as it is obvious in some cases of sites exploiting pagerank directories for simple profit. There is little evidence of pagerank internal pages which have the same PR as the homepage therefore little value except for traffic depending on popularity of that category.

Creating Your Own High Profit Niche Pay Per Click Search Engines.
Todays article is all about setting up niche pay per click search engines. If you thought that this was beyond the scope of the individual internet entrepreneur then you would be dead wrong. There are literally thousands of niche markets that are just begging for a speciality search engine – these are thriving industries with thousands of vendors looking for targeted advertising sources such as PPC engines.
What Are Niche Pay Per Click Search Engines?
Google is a search engine. It also has a pay per click element (Adwords) where all types of businesses deposit cash to Googles account in return for advertising space. Each time someone clicks on one of the adverts, the advertiser pays Google a determined amount. It could be 5 cents or as much as a hundred dollars per click.
Now if you have any doubts at all about the potential or profitability of this type of model then just take a look at Googles stock price – it’s worth hundreds of dollars per share. And it’s all thanks to the same basic search engine business model that you’re about to discover.
You see, Pay Per Click traffic is one of the most cost effective, targeted, profitable and popular ways to drive traffic to a website. Almost every single internet marketer or small business uses PPC advertising to drive highly targeted leads to their website. So there is no shortage of people waiting to pay for highly targeted traffic…which is good news for you.
But Google has a massive weakness that’s going to be your strength – Google tries to be a search engine in every niche topic in existence. When you set-up a niche search engine your aim is to focus on ONE TIGHT & SPECIFIC NICHE.
When you do this, you’ll attract the attention of everyone who has an interest in that niche. Set up a niche on hotels in England for example and you have just tapped into the following:
- The huge number of tourists & travellers who look for hotels in the UK. Per year that can mean a potential market in the millions.
- The tens of thousands of hotels, bed & breakfasts and guest-houses.
But why would anyone opt for your specific niche engine ahead of Google? Simply, it has a lot of junk inside its listings. It’s not optimised. Someone searching for a hotel to stay in within the UK would probably prefer to look in a search engine that is dedicated to just that.
Multiple Ways To Profit From Your Niche PPC Search Engine
The good thing about setting up a niche PPC search engine is that you can build multiple sources of profit from it. Essentially, you’ll be getting paid every time someone clicks on an advert. But there are some additional income streams that you can build into your search engine:
You’ll be getting a lot of TARGETED traffic. This is an ideal opportunity to offer additional affiliated products for additional profits.
It’s an opportunity to build a highly targeted opt in list – this can mean significant back-end income if harnessed effectively.
This is important – but once your search engine is operational you can sell it and create a massive pay-day for yourself.
How To Pick A Dynamic, High Profit Niche To Set-Up Your PPC Search Engine
We looked at the UK hotels niche as a good tightly focused niche. What makes it this a good niche, and how can you identify literally hundreds of additional niches with outstanding potential?
When picking a niche, here are a few things that you should consider:
Your niche should have a thriving market. Of course the amounts per click that you can charge are a factor, but so are the potential of prospects in the niche. For speciality niches where you can charge say $20 per click you may be able to get away with a small target market. However, if you’re only charging $0.05 per click then you’ll need a large volume of prospects.
Look for niche markets that are proven to be highly popular. If you can do this then you’ll almost certainly succeed.
High Pagerank Does not Results in High Search Engine Rankings
“Page Rank” a very well known term to most search engine marketers. The affinity of Page Rank is heard by all for many good reasons. Google introduced the concept of Page Rank in 1998 and since then all search engine marketing professionals have been adopting strange strategies to up their rankings. Is Page Rank worth of all the efforts?
One thing which attracts people towards Page Rank is that it tends to reward people for their efforts on a scale of 1-10. Page Rank measures success quantitatively and a factor of happiness for both marketers and their clients.
Since its inception there is only one and one thing which has been extremely important for Google, which is the visitor of the website. Google has always told to the world that sites can achieve high rankings only if they focus on the visitor of the site. Make your site more informative and easy to use for your site visitors and you don’t need much in order to succeed in Internet Marketing.
Link building is no different than this. The same methodology should be used in link building. While exchanging links for your website you should keep in mind that the links should offer useful content, rich information and relevant to the topics showcased in your website. Instead of a link algorithm it should be you who should decide the relevance of a link your site connects to.
There are many genuine link exchange offers which are turned barely on the basis of Page Rank, rejections of such link requests results in a loss of abeyant traffic and search engine marketing opportunities for both sides.
PR followers will undoubtedly argue that links on a site with low PR will not help them. If we talk strictly in PR terms a site can easily get a high PR within months if it engages in a genuine reciprocal link program. Everyone should keep in mind that if Google changes it Page Rank algorithm it can easily bring the PR down from 6 or 7 to PR 2 or 3. Page Rank does not help you in achieving the desired ranking in Google search engine. Yes, it may help you in creating a good repo with your clients and first time site visitors.
I do not intend to nullify the efforts of search engine marketers, but I want my fellow marketers and customers to know the fact that Page Rank does not helps in achieving high ranking in search engines. What matters is the relevancy and neighborhood of the link.
I hope this article makes things more clear and understandable for those who run after high PR links and in the process miss good relevant links. In other words webmasters should pay attention to the webpage and not to the Page Rank.
Link Popularity: Placing Text Links on High Pagerank Websites
It is well known that major search engines rank your website based on the quantity and quality of links that are pointing to your site. Webmasters use various methods to increase their website’s link popularity.
One of them is using text links ads. These are ads that are very similar to newspaper’s ads, without graphics. You just write a headline with a short description and include the link to your website. Visitors clicking on them are directly sent to your site. And obviously, the search engine spiders visiting those websites follow your link. And because these are one-way links (also called “backlinks”), they have a higher weight in the search engines’s algorithms which determine your website’s ranking.
The most important part of this method is to choose the website where you put your link. For obvious reasons, most webmasters prefer to place their links on highly ranked websites or directories. The higher the Pagerank of the website offering you a one-way link, the better for you. In fact, the most effective quality links are those placed on PR5 websites or higher such as asondheim, which offers also search engine friendly listings with deep links to many pages of the same domain.
Some webmasters buy text links at a monthly basis, what the advertisers call ‘recurring billing’. You place your inbound link on a high ranked website and you pay an agreed fee every month. This method has the disadvantage of tying you up for long i.e. if you don’t pay your monthly bill, your link will be removed and you’ll no longer have the benefit you were looking for in the first place: having a quality link pointing to your website from a high ranked website.
But there is nowadays another interesting alternative: some text links directories offer the possibility of placing your link with a one-off fee. You then have a permanent link to your website. No recurring billing! No link removal! And the most exciting feature is that those one-off payments can costs as little as $1-$5. This is a cheap and highly cost-effective method of increasing your popularity. Usually, webmasters who want their website to appear at prominent places, such as the homepage or the top of a category page, have to bid more than the others. They decide what they want to pay in order to appear where they want. A fair enough system, in my opinion.
How to identify such websites? Do as I did. Use Google. You can make a search via Google, using keywords such as ‘buy cheap text links’ for example.
