Link Building Strategy – Understanding PageRank
Link building is the final and most important tactic of any successful search engine optimization strategy. It involves accumulating the most amounts of quality links as possible from other sites. Much easier said than done.
This article is simply to explain the mechanics of Link building Services , and some basic direction on where to get started. We will post many articles on the subject moving forward. If you already know what Link building Services is, I suggest you move on to our next article!
“It involves accumulating the most amounts of quality links as possible from other sites.”
What do we mean by “quality links”?
Google uses a value system for every WebPages on the internet, called PageRank. The value system goes from 1/10 to 10/10 (only a handful of sites on the internet have a PageRank of 10) They calculate the PageRank of any page by taking into account how many other sites have linked to this page, and what is the PageRank of those sites who are linking to this page. It’s a mouthful, we know. Here is an example:
ABC Consulting has a PageRank of 6
123 Consulting has a PageRank of 3
XYZ Consulting has a PageRank of 1
If 123 Consulting and XYZ Consulting both link to your site, your PageRank will still not be as high as it would be if ABC Consulting had linked to your site.
This is obviously a very simplified version, but this is the concept of PageRank.
With this in mind, make sure when you are asking to be linked, and linking other sites – know that PageRank is of significant importance.

Website Marketing Sources And Strategy (4)The Problem with High Pagerank Link Directories?
I thought I would write this little article warning people about some of the paid directories and how they can and are exploiting people with misleading quotes such as high pagerank, charging phenomenal fees for nothing like high pagerank backinks in return like promised or suggested.
There seems to be a pandemic of sites charging in order for a small placement link in a category which relates to the niche website in question. You in effect place your site link in the relevant category and pay a fee which can range from 5 dollars up to and including 150.00 plus, some are free.
However what they don’t tell you is that each page has a pagerank, an independent internal pagerank for every page . So for instance, if you had a website with say 100 pages within the site you have 100 separate pagerank pages which can range from a scale of 1-10 depending on various factors.
Failing to check the internal pagerank of where you link is likely to be placed before may save you quite a bit of money for pretty much nothing in return.
Say for instance the web directory in question has a homepage with a pagerank of 7 which may look quite tempting at first thought, however if you cannot place your link on that actual homepage the pagerank 7 counts for nothing.
The best method to check this would be to use free software on the web and locate where in that site your link is likely to be placed and check the internal pagerank of that given page, you may find some of them have a pagerank of 0 or low pagerank.
Granted no doubt these pagerank pages may rise or not over the coming months however it doesn’t take away the fact that some directories are claiming high pagerank to sell links, its misleading and should be stamped out.
I don’t know about you but I would find it infuriated paying for a link in a high pagerank directory not that I would to later find out that the internal page it is place on has a pagerank of 0 or quite low. In fact it is quite likely to be low for the simple reason that most directories have a lot of categories meaning less traffic to each page which in effect lower each page and each pagerank in the directory.
You also have to take in account the sheer number of directories, this will also decrease traffic volume as more and more directories are built lowering pagerank of each page as traffic drops as more competition emerges. Either these directory owners do not understand pagerank or they are misleading people to make money.
I would also suggest that perhaps there is evidence for refunds in certain cases as it is obvious in some cases of sites exploiting pagerank directories for simple profit. There is little evidence of pagerank internal pages which have the same PR as the homepage therefore little value except for traffic depending on popularity of that category.
Are you spoiling the tag “nofollow” Your Link Building Campaign?
The label “nofollow” was designed not to pass PageRank to other pages with the aim of identifying links payment to discourage spammers from exploiting the Google index. While Matts Cutts, director of the anti-spam team at Google’s website says that only a small percentage of links tagged with “nofollow”, if the widespread use, fair pay for sinners?
The label “nofollow” was designed by Matts Cutts, director of the anti-spam team at Google’s website, and Jason Shellen from Blogger.com. Announced in 2005, was quickly adopted by other search engines used by most users, as Yahoo! or MSN. The goal of “nofollow” to prevent the exploitation of the search engines indexes discouraging spammers to go to pages with high traffic or high PR to get backlinks, and identify links to pay.
How does “nofollow” to your link building campaign?
The label “nofollow” alter the flow of PageRank between pages, so we lose the possibility of increasing the PR of our pages to positioning. How well does not transfer text links, we would also hamper the positioning of certain keywords that Google will not take into account in our links.
PageRank explained
Check out Graph showing the flow of PageRank between pages (Source: The PageRank Citation Ranking: Bringing Order to the Web)
To better understand how it affects “nofollow” to the flow of PageRank, we can see the example that exposed the original creators of PageRank.
Notes, for example, the page that has 100 points for PR. If this page there are 2 external links, each transferred 50 points. These 50 points go to another page, which has in turn another 2 outgoing links. Each of these 25 points will transfer PR. Thus, the PR will flow from page to page. To avoid the transfer and endless pages far from the original link to obtain the outgoing PR, a factor of decline.
The introduction of “nofollow” means that the tagged links and no longer pass PR to other pages as we have seen in the example above.
Can someone then make a link labeled sites in building links with “nofollow”?
My advice is always to analyze the issue of where you want to get a Backlink. While with “nofollow” will not transfer or PageRank or anchor text to your page, you can create a valuable relationship semantics. Remember that search engines not only look at the links, but also the texts that surround them.
You should also take into account a factor that the label “nofollow” can not stop the traffic. If visitors to the page where you believe that your Backlink offers something of interest to visit your page. If your site also offers quality content, you could get your visitors link to your pages.
